Winter Flies: Window to Europe Film Series

Tuesday, January 29, 2019 @ 7:00 pm

[1st Floor]

Two mischievous adolescent boys embark on a journey of imaginative misadventure and coming-of-age self-discovery, in Olmo Omerzu’s road-trip comedy celebrating the need to indulge the innocence, impulsiveness, and irrepressibility of youth. On a bright, wintry day, cherubic and ingenuous Heduš (Jan František Uher) catches doe-eyed friend Mára (Tomáš Mrvík) and his stolen car in his BB gun’s crosshairs. He spontaneously decides to accompany Mára on a journey without destination. Two curious teenagers heedlessly take on the adventures that come their way, from rescuing a canine companion from drowning to picking up their instant teenage crush, hitchhiker Bara (Eliška Křenková).

It is a bittersweet comedy that reminds us to indulge our inner child and the innocent pleasures of youth. The movie is directed by Olmo Omerzu. Olmo Omerzu was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Since his studies at Prague FAMU film school, he is firmly settled in Czech cinema. His previous works premiered at Berlin and San Sebastian festivals. He unveiled his latest work, Winter Flies, in the main competition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and managed to add another prize to his trophy cabinet, the Best Director Award.
