The Digital Divide: EU v. US Over Data Protection

Monday, February 22, 2016 @ 12:30 pm2:00 pm

A talk with Max Schrems, founder of Europe v. Facebook, Julia Angwin, a reporter at ProPublica, and Peter Micek, counsel at Access Now. Via the European Institute:

Legal procedures initiated by Max Schrems, PhD candidate at the University of Vienna, to ensure that internet giants comply with European regulation on data protection led to the landmark “Safe Harbor” case at the European Court of Justice last fall. Schrems’ initiatives raise important questions about the differences between Americans and Europeans concerning the regulation of the internet, privacy rights, and the ability of consumers/citizens to ensure that their rights are respected by corporations and governments.
