The 9th Annual Chekhov Variety Show

Friday, April 26, 2019 @ 8:00 pm

$15 – $25

Please join us for the 9th annual Chekhov Variety Show, NYC’s longest-running annual celebration of Anton Chekhov’s birthday. Click here to buy tickets.

“Heroes are as necessary as the sun.”

—Anton Chekhov

This year’s event celebrates artist-heroes like Chekhov (one of history’s most effective prison reform advocates) and features a performance by free expression activist Mai Khoi, known as Vietnam’s Lady Gaga, Bjork and Pussy Riot all rolled into one.

Valorie Curry (The Tick) and Sam Underwood (Fear the Walking Dead) lead a troupe of Chekhov-loving performers in a night of comic readings of Chekhov’s early funny stuff and “Why We’re Miserable According to Chekhov” by Chekhov superfan and host Laura Strausfeld. Musical guests include Chapman/Sirna-Frest’s “Chekhovian Song Cycle,” New York City’s favorite Chekhov rock band, Mai Khoi and more!

Sponsored by Columbia University’s Harriman Institute, in partnership with Yaddo, PEN America’s Artist at Risk Connection and the International Free Expression Project.
