Spanish Republican Exile / Intimate Portraits

Curated by Marina Garde

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and with that, the flight of almost half a million Spaniards from their homeland. Intimate Portraits seeks to bring to the forefront the Spanish Republican exile through three deeply personal accounts. Two of these films concentrate on women figures, all three portrayed by a new generation of filmmakers. All three are US premieres.

· Discover the captivating stories of those who had to face exile and pay tribute to them;

· Recover the memory of forgotten mythical figures of recent Spanish history;

· Draw the face of women and men who fought for Spanish democracy and its restoration;

· Showcase young filmmakers’ renew interest in recovering the memory of this key part of Spanish history;

· Link present and past.
