Sirens of La Serenissima: Creative Women and Feminist Forerunners in Early Modern Venice

Panel discussion. This event is part of La Serenissima: Music and Arts from the Venetian Republic, a citywide celebration of Venice organized by Carnegie Hall (February 3 – 21).

This roundtable discussion on the remarkable tradition of early modern Venetian women’s writing features readings from works penned by courtesan Veronica Franco; dissident Baroque nun Arcangela Tarabotti; outspoken Jewish author, poet, and intellectual Sara Copia Sullam; and proto-feminist theorist Moderata Fonte.
