Religion and Rituality
Fourth Annual Conference of the Francophone Society of the Philosophy of Religion
To RSVP, please click here. Rites are a privileged subject matter for anthropology as they allow to subsume under the same concept of religion various practices by which human societies manifest the systems of belief around which they are organized; they also signify, within the succession of “works and days,” the presence of some exceptional temporality through which the sacred is expressed. The conference will be a philosophical discussion of rituality under its many different forms in many different religious practices.
Most of the talks will be presented in French.
Conference sponsored by the Paul LeClerc Fund for French Studies, Knapp Family Foundation, and Cultural Services of the French Embassy, and co-sponsored by the Maison Française, Institute for African Studies, Department of Religion, Department of Philosophy, and Institute for Religion, Culture, and Public Life.
