LGBT Rights in the Balkans in the Communist Era and Today

Please join the East Central European Center and SIPA Spectrum for a talk with Zvonimir Dobrović, LGBT rights activist and editor of An Oral History of Homosexuality in Croatia. Dr. Jasmin Mujanović (Friedrich Ebert Foundation) will discuss LGBT rights in the Balkans, and Dobrović will present passages of the English translation of his book.
Zvonimir Dobrović is an activist, curator, and festival director from Croatia. He is the founder and artistic director of Domino, the biggest independent art organization in Croatia, responsible for running several festivals – Queer New York International Art Festival, Queer Zagreb, and Perforations – Week of Live Art. Through different platforms he curates over 100 performances annually, staged all over the world. Dobrović has also edited several books, including An Oral History of Homosexuality in Croatia. He regularly holds workshops on curating and art management.
Dr. Jasmin Mujanovic is a political scientist and international affairs analyst and consultant, specializing in the politics of southeastern Europe, and the politics of post-authoritarian and post-conflict democratization more broadly. Currently, he works as a policy consultant for the Sarajevo-based Friedrich Ebert Foundation – Dialogue Southeast Europe Office and is a former visiting scholar at the Harriman Institute.
