Kevorkian Center Alumni Professional Development & Networking Event

Please join the Kevorkian Center for another Alumni Professional Development Event. We will be joined by two alumni, Adem Carroll, an activist and organizer with Burma Muslims in New York City and Cyrus Roedel, a podcaster and community organizer now based in Tunisia. Our guests will speak about their time at the Kevorkian Center, how it set up their career beyond the M.A. degree, and answer questions from students and alumni. This event is open to NYU students and Kevorkian Center alumni only.

Adem Carroll: For eight years Adem Carroll has served as New York and United Nations Program Director for Justice for All, an NGO accredited with the UN Office of Global Engagement.  This NGO seeks to promote awareness and action on mass displacement, refugee rights, trafficking, xenophobia and genocide prevention, mainly focusing on three persecuted minorities: the Rohingya, the Uighur and the people of Kashmir.

With a background in human rights and community advocacy, Adem has worked at Amnesty International, Peace Corps and three AmeriCorps national service programs. For five years after 9/11, Adem served as 9/11 Program Director at ICNA Relief, assisting hundreds of Muslim detainees and their families, founded and led Muslim Consultative Network (MCN) starting in 2003.

Adem received his MA in Near Eastern Studies at the Kevorkian Center in 1987.

Cyrus Roedel: Cyrus Roedel is a community services worker, researcher and educator whose work focuses on the Middle East and North Africa. He is the co-producer of the documentary podcast Revolution 1: The Story of the Tunisian Uprising, which took him to cities and towns across Tunisia as he conducted oral history interviews with people who brought down their dictator. Previously, he was the preventive services program director at the Arab-American Family Support Center in Brooklyn. He graduated from NYU with an MA in Near Eastern Studies in 2013, and from BYU with a BA in Middle East Studies/Arabic in 2010. He now lives with his wife in Tunis.
