Geography: An Exhibition of Contemporary Neckwear Designs by Slava Salyuk
Saturday, March 18, 2017
Join us for a special public reception on Saturday, March 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, as we welcome and celebrate the works of contemporary neckwear designer Slava Salyuk from Lviv, Ukraine.
In her first showing with The Ukrainian Institute of America, Slava Salyuk presents intricate and ornate necklaces reflecting on global motifs and inclinations. Geography is a uniquely introspective journey through time and space where unexpected parallel decorative and design influences from Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, South and Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains demonstrate mystical relationships between cultures whose ethnic and spiritual paths have never genuinely nor pragmatically crossed.
Each piece of Ms. Salyuk’s necklaces is enriched with the collected insight, meaning and power that is woven into the organic essence of being, spirituality and tradition. Carrying on the practice of a learned and cultivated craft inherited from her father, Lyubart Lishchynskyi, Slava Salyuk creates — through material color, form and luster — fine adornments which, like wisdom itself, transcend and resolve apparent contradictions to bring the beholder closer to the mysterious beauty of which everyone and everything universally partakes.
Trained as a fashion designer, Slava Salyuk works in Lviv where she lives with her husband and two daughters. Ms. Salyuk has exhibited with Iconart Gallery in Lviv. Her wearable designs are much in demand, and widely collected in Ukraine and abroad.
All designs in this exhibition are available for purchase.
