Film Screening: Grand Hotel
Friday, October 13, 2017 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
As part of the “CALA Fall 2017 Film Series—Lights, Camera, Deco!,” the NYU Center for Applied Liberal Arts and Deutsches Haus at NYU present the 1932 American pre-Code Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer drama film “Grand Hotel,” directed by Edmund Goulding, starring Greta Garbo and John Barrymore. The screenplay by William A. Drake is based on the 1930 play of the same title by Drake, who had adapted it from the 1929 novel Menschen im Hotel by Vicki Baum. To date, it is the only film to have won the Academy Award for Best Picture without being nominated in any other category. Noah Isenberg will introduce the film.
From Deutsches Haus at NYU. With RSVP, the screening is free admission. Space is limited.
