Film, performance: Karel Gott, Celebration of Life

[3rd Floor] Screening of a film from Karel Gott’s concert at Carnegie Hall and a performance by Czech swing singer Jan Smigmator, to honor the late pop singer Karel Gott , a romantic Czech crooner whose popularity behind the Iron Curtain helped earn him the nickname “Sinatra of the East.”
Karel Gott (July 14, 1939 – October 1, 2019) won the Golden Nightingale Award (Zlaty slavik) as the Czech top male singer, voted on by music fans, 42 times, most recently in 2017. Over the course of his career Gott released over 100 albums and 100 compilation albums. In 2009 he was awarded the distinguished Medal of Merit by the Czech government for his contributions to Czech culture.
