Film: Golden Sting

Tuesday, December 3, 2019 @ 7:00 pm9:00 pm

[1st Floor] This sports drama explores the turbulent history of basketball in the former Czechoslovakia amid the social turmoil caused by various dictatorships. In this environment, fair play gets thrown out the window.

Golden Sting takes us back to the period before World War II to the year 1938, and leads up to the year 1951 when Czechoslovakia was ultimately and firmly isolated from the Western countries for the next 38 years. The unconventional combination of a romantic storyline, political context and basketball provides a unique illustration of the most difficult moments of the past century in the former Czechoslovakia.

Golden Sting, 2018, directed by Radim Špaček, running time: 107min, Czech Republic. In Czech with English subtitles.
