Exhibition opening: The Liberation of Pilsen
Wednesday, January 29, 2020 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
[2nd Floor] The city of Pilsen is considered to be one of the last cities to be liberated by the Allies during the end of World War II. The exhibition “The Liberation of Pilsen” will explain the advance of Allied troops from Normandy to Pilsen, the role of General George S. Patton, and other historical circumstances.
The exhibition is on view until March 1.
The advancement of Allied troops, their disembarkment in Normandy, the battle of Ardennes – all of these events are captured in the beginning of the exhibition, which was transported from the Patton Memorial Pilsen Museum, Czech Republic, and tailored to the needs of the spaces of the Czech Center New York Gallery.
The exhibition will present to the public the events which had direct impact on Pilsen patriots in Czechoslovakia, more precisely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, for example the assassination of the Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich or the events connected with the war-time production in the Škoda factory, and their roles in the repeated air strikes carried out by the Allies.
