After the the Havdalah in Rhodes
Saturday, November 2, 2019 @ 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
On the Island of Rhodes, after the Shabbat, families gathered for the Havdalah, the ceremony that separates the day of rest from the beginning of a new week of work. After the recitation of the prayers over sweet wine and a bowl of spices, life resumed as before the pause of the sixth day. The women would seat in the courtyards or by the entrance of the homes and sing romansas, traditional Spanish love songs whose melodies shared elements of different traditions including the troubadours, medieval poetry and the oriental diwan.
Inspired by this tradition, every Saturday night, the installation Los Corassones Avlan will host music and poetry reading to greet the beginning of the new week.
From the Primo Levi Center.
