Tuesday, February 9, 2016 @ 6:30 pm8:00 pm

A panel discussion with Patrick Simon, Andreas Wimmer and Riva Kastoryano. Moderated by Alexander Stille. From Maison Française:

Panelists discuss how the French model of integration is responding to the growing diversity within French society. They explore some of the findings of a new large-scale study co-authored by Patrick Simon for the INED, Trajectoires et origines, which traces the social trajectories of 1st and 2nd generation immigrants in France through their experiences with education, employment, family formation, identity formation, and experiences of discrimination. Sociologist Riva Kastoryano discusses the impact of immigrant organization and mobilization on national and group identity in France. Andreas Wimmer contributes a French-U.S. comparative perspective to questions of integration and identity within diverse societies and examines some of the tensions diversity can create.
