“300 Men (300 Hommes)” and “Etre Vivant”

Thursday, March 24, 2016 @ 6:30 pm

US premiere of Emmanuel Gras’ documentary 300 Men. From Maison Française:

Celebrated filmmaker Emmanuel Gras (Bovines, 2011) and co-creator Aline Dalbis transport us in this immersive documentary centered on Forbin, a homeless shelter in Marseille. Free of interviews or narration, the camera acts as a silent observer, honestly capturing the candid exchanges of the 300 souls seeking shelter each night in the refuge of Forbin. Acknowledging the violent complexities of life for the homeless while simultaneously revealing intimate moments of tenderness, this remarkable documentary tells an important and too often silenced story. Thanks to the outstanding professionalism of its filmmakers, 300 Hommes succeeds in its refusal to adopt a sensationalist or sordid approach. Strong, though difficult at times, it is a film not to be missed or forgotten.
